DHANUSH D

Hi, i am Danush D, pursuing Bachelor of visual arts-“I came to know about SIGNA through a college friend in 2017. In my first visit, what attracted me the most was the art works done on the walls of SIGNA centre. and the fearless discussions by the youths on the topics which we see in our everyday life and easy to relate-left hand and right hand politics, signa shattered my blind beliefs and presumptions of meaningless customs. -I thought that my future wife should cook for me as I am done cooking throughout my college student life. But Now I do not think women are just ment to cook. that because of my understanding of gender roles and stereotypes during our discussions and listening to fellow girls in signa camps. I have attended basic camp in ragi halli, leadership ciuwhip in kolar, kushi-krushi programme in Sira taluk-rejuvenation of lake, durgadahalli-craft work with signa. By participating in signa activities, mad me think about the way we blindely follow and act the society , how we take everything for granted which is not supposed to be done. I along with chennakeshava went to Fort Kochi , Biennale in Kerala for exposure trip. An artist had done 4-5 installations using the everyday things which a transgender person had used. It was Aspire to be a graphic and textile designer.

I used to ignorantly believe in a lot of superstitions common to our traditional society. After attending discussion sessions in Signa, it helped me realize that most blind beliefs are designed to target the dalit and women, I have now turned to atheism. I was a timid, shy guy too hesitant to share my thoughts and opinion even in a small group. I must frankly admit I have re-discovered myself after coming in touch with this freedom corner. Signa not only provided space and moral support but a new direction to my life.

RAJESHWARI

“Two years ago Swamy sir from Signa came to our college for an outreach programme (avoid plastics). I was a student of Empress Girls College. A relative put me in this college and one day out of curiosity I attended the talk-discussion in our college.I listened to Jnana sindhu swamy passionately speak on environment and how youths can take part actively in co-existing with nature. Inspired by him computer , learning oratory skills, reading books---caste system and its oppressive nature, reservation in education and jobs, eco friendly practices-like reuse of plastics, not to waste things and durgadahalli camp helps for students to creatively use things around us to …. Family members distrust of me was always frustrating. Therefore I came out of my home town Kanapura----organised ‘eco-friendly deepavali’ campaign public talks and sang songs in the bus stand to raise awareness amongst the public

LOHITH M

It was a time when life meant nothing and void. It was a day some people came to the college I was studying and conducted a quiz and also told to visit their office if we wants to explore..I did visit. That's when I felt I don't know many things that existed in this world. I understood I don't even know about myself. By then I decided to come to the office more often. I learnt many things about life. I attended the sensation camps regarding society, gender, environment, pluralism and many other aspects. Being a queer, it's always been difficult for me in many ways, which I never could share with anyone anywhere else but here. I had the people to hear me and understand me. That made me to be the part of as it became a major part of my life. I visited many places and learnt many things with their support. Today, I'm one of the strongest and happy person, who never give up on life whatever the reason. No problem could cut me down. I know who I'm and I know where I belong. I know to live and also to survive. I also know to struggle if necessary.
